What is ‘presence’ and does it matter? When we think back to the teachers that really influenced us, it’s often not the detail of what they taught us that is most vivid in our memory, rather it’s how they made us feel – how they communicated compassion or aliveness and enthusiasm, how they ‘presented’ themselves in our classrooms. These are qualities that are communicated through a teacher’s actions and presence.

In this session we will examine what ‘classroom presence’ is and how we might develop the attributes necessary to encourage engagement and learning in our classrooms.

Please note that a £15 charge will be levied against University of Portsmouth Departments where a member of their staff has booked but not attended, unless DCQE has been notified of their absence at least 48 hours prior to the time of the event. In order to cancel, please email acdev@port.ac.uk or phone 023 9284 3328.
